Romancing U.S.: hx3: first day on campus

.::.hx3: first day on campus.::.

ok, let me back-date tis.. my first day on campus is actually jan 11 which is wednesday.. =p

this is the north gate of uc berkeley, the nearest gate to my house.. i guessed, i will be passing by this gate everyday when i go to school and out of school..

anyway, todae, i was waiting for wuyan at this gate @ 830am.. but she din turned up, so i went to the international house by myself.. it was a 15 mins walk from the north gate to the I-House.. tats pretty far away.. oh well..

the I-House was very warm.. felt really good to haf warmth after a long cold walk.. but the other students staying at I-House said that the place is very hot at night.. they couldn't sleep.. diao.. i wished i stayed in a hot place than a cold one..

we haf a few talks at the I-House auditorium this morning.. some mandatory orientation and information abt berkeley.. can be quite boring.. i nearly fell asleep at some talks..

at lunch break, meichee brought wuyan, shicong & me to make our cal-1 card, which is like our matric card.. they took an instant photo of us for the card.. my photo was so ulgy.. =( and we were supposed to get our class pass at the same time.. but i was not able to get tat cos they say i haven paid at least 20% of my fees.. diao.. wat the.. ok, fine.. so dumm..

so after tat, we had lunch at the I-House canteen.. it's an eat-all-you-can system which simply means buffet style.. well, i was really expecting good food cos everything abt I-House seemed to be so good.. but.. but, i was wrong! the food was far from good.. they had a lot of veggies.. and pasta with lousy sauces.. and only 1 kinda meat was served.. wat kinda lunch was this.. and the veggies were all so raw, it tasted horrible.. so, u see, my lunch included (clockwise) tomato sauce donut & chicken patty, salad, veggies, soup tat contained rice -> like porridge, 3 glasses of juices -> orange, peach & cranberry.. =( i din finished the food, of cos.. only the meat patty tasted normal.. the donut was hard & sour.. the salad sauce tasted weird.. the veggies were really raw.. the soup is like, erm.. nothing to say abt it.. but, the juices were good! the best thing of this lunch is the juices! haha.. so dumm!

anyway, aft that we went for a few other talks before we sneak out again to ask for employment in the campus.. not much luck, but we saw a few nice building ard the campus..

this is the campanile.. it's really tall, and i tink i can go up there as long as i showed my cal id.. hee.. i look like a toy in the picture.. like those "pocket polly" tat i, and probably many other girls, like to play when i was a child.. hee.. anyway, according to some postcard, this uc landmark can be seen from all over the Bay Area and is on an axis with University Avenue and the Golden Gate.. oh oh.. i can wait to visit the Golden Gate and be on the Golden Gate Bridge soon..

anyway, after tat we went to the university library, oso more affectionately known as the doe library.. the library is named after this person called.. ok, i dunno the full name.. somebody with last name as doe.. haha.. and ya, the library is really beautiful.. the exterior is so grand.. not like ths central library we had in nus.. xiao wu jian da wu.. haha..

and the interior feels juz like those we saw in harry potter.. haha.. i like.. and so, i took a book, and pretended to read.. haha.. cool ya.. not many pple were in the library, i guess it's not the new sch term yet, so no one study hard yet.. i tink it's really nice to be studying in there.. nice environment, warm and cosy..
and i met einstein.. or someone who juz looked like him.. hmmm.. i dunno.. we din dare to ask the librarian cos she was staring fiercely at us when we took the pictures.. probably jealous tat we din offer to take with her.. haha.. anyway, the "einstein" ignored me.. haha..

and this is the sather gate of uc berkeley.. this gate is on the south side of the campus.. according to some postcard again, this is the traditional entrance to the berkeley campus.. it was presented by Mrs Jane Kay Sather to the University of California in memory of her late husband, Peder Sather..
along the way back to I-House, i saw a lot of free newspaper stands.. they juz lined along the streets.. so cool.. hmmm.. amazed.. how come singapore is not so generous? while we used to tink tat "streats" and "today" will be free newspapers for us, it turned out that they eventually make us pay for it.. haha..
and there are maple trees all around.. the orange and red leaves of these trees are really beautiful.. wondering why they are still orange and red.. i tot all shd haf been shed? hee.. probably winter is not like winter here in berkeley? haha..

ok la, i will end here.. probably write more when i feel more free..
